Extra Rich Biscuits

1 3/4 cups plus 2 tbsp. flour
4 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tbsp. sugar
1/2 cup shortening, part butter (the butter improves the flavor)
2/3 cup milk

Spoon flour into measuring cup (do not sift). Level off and pour into bowl. Add baking powder, salt and sugar to flour and stir well to blend. Cut in shortening and butter. Add milk, stirring with a fork until all flour is moistened. Turn out onto lightly floured cloth-covered board and knead gently 20 seconds. Roll into 1/2-inch thickness; cut with lightly floured biscuit cutter, making one sharp cut for each. Place on ungreased baking sheet. Bake at 450 degrees 8 to 10 minutes or until tops begin to turn a golden color.
